On the other hand, "Protein restriction has not had the beneficial effect on weight loss as suggested by previous studies." In terms of weight loss, you'd have to eat a ton of protein to make any difference in the long run; it's the amount of protein that is added that matters. So, Masteron's position (and most diet books) is that high carb diets aren't necessarily a good idea because low carb diets might have the opposite effect. This is not a great position to be in – most diet books are based on the idea that dietary fat is bad for your body and low carb diets are the answer. This belief has led to people often ignoring all the science that isn't about fat. So, if you want to lose weight, don't worry about the effect of high carbs on fat loss – that's not relevant to your weight loss goals. The bottom line regarding Masteron's argument is that you should eat more protein if you want to avoid the negative effects of high carb, which include high cortisol levels, and high protein diets should only be started if you are also doing low carb to gain lean muscle instead of weight loss. 2.
